[00:00:00] Well, hello, hello. This week, I’m going to do something a little bit different and give you an audio. So I’m always talking about living the life of your dreams, right? I talk about the fact that that’s what I’m here to do. I want to help people get time back so they can live the life of their dreams and do the things that actually matter to them. Whether that’s doing the things that matter more in your business, like generating revenue or being able to spend more time with friends and family. But sometimes I feel like that living the life of your dreams or that vision feels like it’s too big. And that sometimes stops us from actually doing the things to get us there.
[00:00:37] Is that what’s happening with you? It is for a lot of people. And so that’s one of the things I want to talk about today because having the vision is huge, but getting from where you are today to that vision might involve a lot of steps. You know, in some cases it might be. a small task to accomplish. It might not take you very long, but in some cases it might be a big, long drawn out vision.
[00:01:04] You know, what do you want your life to look like in five, 10, 15, 30, 40 years? And if you’re looking at your vision as that kind of a long term timeframe, it might feel like it’s too much and you can’t envision ever getting there based on where you are today. So that’s what I want to talk about because all it takes.
[00:01:26] Is one thing starting with one thing and doing that can get you on the path to the big vision. So what is that for you? I don’t know what your particular vision is. But think about what you can do today. What is it that you want to do and what is one thing you can do today that will help you further yourself along to that longterm goal?
[00:01:53] So one thing I want to share today is a story about my husband and I and one, one of the things that we did many years ago that I often think about when I talk about dreaming and the vision. At that point in our lives, we were, oh gosh, it was probably 20 years ago at this point. We were young. We were 20, 30 years old.
[00:02:20] We were making good money. We had good careers, but we had this feeling of we were making too much money to feel so broke. Right? Has anybody ever been there? I mean, I think many of us feel that way at one point or another, but we were at the point where we decided it was time for a change. So my husband, the researcher that he is.
[00:02:41] Started doing some reading. He’s always been very interested in financial planning and investments and those sorts of things. And so he happened upon a guy named Dave Ramsey. I don’t know if you know who that is, love Dave or hate him. He has a few good ideas and one of the ones that really resonated with us was the fact that he says, if you’re going to get where you want to go financially, You need to be on the same page with your spouse, right?
[00:03:08] I think we all know intelligently that that’s true, whether that’s your spouse, your partner, your friend, whatever it is, whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish. And if you’ve got a partner in crime, so to speak, in that endeavor, you need to both be on the same page. So let’s take it back to Us and our story, we felt like we were making too much money to feel so broke.
[00:03:30] So what we did is what Dave Ramsey told us to do, and that was to sit down and dream together. What did we want our lives to look like in 5, 10, 15, 20 years? And how was that going to impact or change what we did today to help us get there? So I’m going to give you a very real simple example. Now, whether you’re a coffee drinker or not, I, I tried to like drink coffee for years.
[00:04:00] Don’t know why, because I love the smell, don’t love the taste, but I was one of those coffee drinkers who drank more cream than coffee. Okay. But anyway, at this stage in life, I was that gal who was heading to the local coffee shop every morning before I went to work, spending five, six bucks a day, right?
[00:04:18] Between the cost of the coffee, the tip, the time. and didn’t even really love it, but it was just a habit that I had gotten into. But once we sat down and we decided to talk about what does our life look like, what do we want it to look like in 5, 10, 15, 20 years? And quite frankly, back then we were talking about the time in our life that we are currently living today.
[00:04:42] So at that time we said, you know, these are the things we want to accomplish in our life. I’m not going to go into all the details, but we had a desire for financial freedom. So again, we were feeling like we were too broke. Partu made too much money to fill this broke, so it got us moving. And one of the things that we were talking about is, you know, what can we do differently in our lives every day to help us get closer to this goal of financial freedom?
[00:05:11] Well, the subject of the daily coffee came up, you know, and at first I thought, eh, it’s five bucks a day, six bucks a day, no big deal. But you know what? I decided that the dream of financial freedom and what we were really trying to accomplish in our marriage in our life was more important than that five bucks a day.
[00:05:30] I started drinking the Keurig coffee, throwing a little creamer in it, and you know what? That 47 cents a day versus the 5 or 6 bucks a day, did it rock our world? Maybe not, but it was a small habit. That got us in the right direction, got us moving in the right direction. There are a number of other things that we did, but my message today is to tell you that it just takes one small thing.
[00:05:56] If where you’re at today and where we were at at that point, the difference between where we were then and where we are. And where we are today in terms of our financial freedom is a completely different picture. But it was simply because we decided that we were going to start taking small steps and it started for me with one small step of not doing a coffee every single day.
[00:06:19] So what is it for you? What is it that you’re trying to accomplish and what is a thing that you can actually do that will get you on the path towards it? You don’t need to get from A to Z. In the next 24 hours, the next 3 months, or maybe even the next year, it depends. But start doing one thing that will get you on the right path.
[00:06:44] So that’s my message for the week. I hope it resonates. I hope it helps you see that when I’m talking about the vision and finding the time to do things in your life that matter most to you, I’m talking about starting small. Wherever you are in that journey, it takes the first step to get you started.
[00:07:04] And once you do one, all of a sudden the next one becomes a little easier and you start stacking things on top of each other. And before you know it, you look up and you’re where you want to be. So that’s my message. That’s my thought to you. Just think about one thing for the week. I hope you have a fantastic week.
[00:07:25] I’ll be back soon.
